The holidays are upon Philadelphia, and with the cold weather you are probably thinking it is as cold as Alaska... Though, it has actually been warmer here lately than in Philly. Makes the cockles of the heart warm at the thought.
Alaska: land of the midnight sun in the summer...in the dead of winter, less than six hours of daylight. Giving you more opportunities to see the aurora borealis, and do some extreme night skiing. There are several productions to watch around the town of Anchorage, along with hundreds of bars to check out. You get to see moose just outside your door, who want to stand in your shoveled path, cause they are tired of the snow too.
The mountains tower over the main city Alaska, Anchorage. Most of the population of Alaska lives in the vicinity of this city, and all roads lead to Anchorage. The capital of Alaska, Juneau, in comparison, is an extremely small town. Juneau also is towered over by mountains, but is also cut off from the rest of Alaska unless you fly there. There are no roads to the capital, which is still a sore spot for many Alaskans. Why have a capital in a place that is not easily accessible to all Alaskans?
The Matanuska-Susitna Valley has a large part of the population situated there, and it is less than an hour's drive from Anchorage. Many love to take advantage of the great outdoors in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley with all it's natural beauty, mountains, rivers, lakes, and streams for skiing, snomobiling, snowboarding, ice skating, and dog sledding in the winter.
Alaska is truly a winter wonderland during the holidays, with the sparking white snow, deep blue sky, and the aurora borealis dancing in the sky.
