"Unfortunately, questions about what facts or evidence changed in this case to prompt a dismissal remain unanswered. The administration still has failed to explain why they did not pursue an obvious case of voter intimidation. Refusal to address these concerns only confirms politicization of the issue and does not reflect well on the Justice Department.

The Department of Justice responded to questions from Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) in a letter earlier this week. DOJ has agreed to a closed door meeting, to be announced.
The letter does not address the basic question, what facts changed? The letter also attempts to reassure, citing the experience of the decision makers. It raises more questions than it answers.
"The Department voluntarily dismissed (the charges) in the complaint because the facts and the law did not support pursuing those claims...That decision was made after a careful and thorough review of the matter by the Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Ri8ghts, a career employee with nearly 30 years experience in the Department, including nearly l5 years as the career Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights."
The facts did not support the claims? And does careful and thorough review mean, "we won?"
60 House Judiciary hearings were held, pin the donkey-style, with blindfolded contestants throwing darts at the Bush appointed targets, happy to poke anywhere near a bullseye. The New York Times, WaPo, et al exhaustively covered those hearing with hundreds of stories, many front page.
60 hearings on the politicization of the Bush DOJ, and a letter for a real scandal. Charges dismissed against nightstick wielding, uniform wearing, New Black Panthers? Not a single, mainstream media story.
What does it mean? Watch the video and judge for yourself.
