Under Michigan law the value of a gift card is not permitted to decrease through fees but the law does not say the cards cannot increase in value. Bon-Ton announced yesterday in a press release they will run a special gift card promotion on New Year’s Day that will actually make the gift cards worth more.
The Milwaukee based retailer operates as Carson’s in the Detroit area, including stores at The Village of Rochester Hills and Partridge Creek in Clinton Township. On the south side of the Michigan Ohio border Bon Ton is known as Elder-Beerman.
This is the first time Bon-Ton has run such a promotion according to the press release.
“In celebration of the holiday Bon-Ton will offer all customers who redeem a Bon-Ton gift card in our store on New Year’s Day an exclusive discount of an extra 10% off purchases on nearly everything in the store,” says Christine Hojnacki, spokesperson for Bon-Ton.
You can combine this bonus with discounts from other available coupons & savings offers during the New Year's Sale event according to Bon-Ton.
If you received a Carson’s and cannot wait until next Wednesday do not despair. You will be able to purchase gift cards between now and the promotion for use during the promotion according to Hojnacki.
Because this sale is on a Wednesday, a day the Detroit Free Press does not have home delivery, you will only be able to see the special deals on the morning of January 1 by going to the Bon-Ton website and clicking on Today’s Specials.
