Sure, it may be winter, and teens and single-digit temperatures may be in the offing, but for the baseball fan, winter is simply synonymous with the term “Hot Stove League.” And this offseason, Bridgeport Bluefish fans are invited to participate in the inaugural Hot Stove Banquet to take place on Sat., Jan. 25, from 6-9 p.m. at the Trumbull Marriott on Hawley Lane. This year's featured speaker will be former Mets star Howard Johnson.

Nicknamed HoJo, Johnson was a switch-hitting third baseman who played for the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs during his 14-year MLB career. A two-time MLB All-Star, Johnson is also a two-time World Series Champion, two-time Silver Slugger award winner, and also led the National League in home runs and RBIs in 1991. Currently HoJo is the hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners, where he will be working with former Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano, who signed with the M's as a free agent this offseason.

“We are excited to announce this special event and offer our fans a unique look inside the baseball industry through an impactful former Major Leaguer such as Howard Johnson,” said Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. “This will be one of many unique events the Bluefish will offer throughout the 2014 season.”

Other featured guests include Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw, former Bluefish favorite Angel Espada (currently a coach in the Miami Marlins organization), and Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard, all of whom will be involved in an interactive and candid panel discussion.

Individual tickets for the event may be purchased at $35 (with Bluefish season ticket holders receiving a $15 discount). Tables of eight are also available, listed at $280 ($160 for Bluefish season ticket holders). This includes an invitation to the event along with ballpark fare food and beverages.
