The Hofstra University women’s basketball team lost a CAA matchup, 76-60, Thursday evening at the hands of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Rams at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Richmond, Va.
The Pride now sit at 16-7 overall and 8-4 in conference play. The Rams move to 14-9 (7-5 CAA) and have now won five straight games against the Pride.
VCU’s Andrea Barbour scored 26 points in the contest, while Courtney Hurt put up a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Rams.
Hofstra junior All-American forward Shante Evans scored 13 points with seven rebounds.
Pride senior guard Candice Bellocchio tallied 11 points. She is now at 998 total points for her career as she attempts to reach the 1,000-point mark. She also played in her 125th career game and will tie Cigi McCollin (2002-07) for first all-time in Hofstra history.
Hofstra led by three at the break, but a 12-5 VCU run to start the second half gave the Rams the lead. The Pride then fought back to take a 46-45 lead.
However, a 16-6 run sealed the deal for the Rams, as Hofstra was unable to overcome this lead late.
The Pride will be back in action Sunday when it heads south to George Mason for a 2 p.m. game.
