Hofstra women’s basketball: Delle Donne’s 41 powers Delaware past Pride

It’s not too often that a college basketball player scores 30 points in a game let alone 40, but Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne put up 41 points in Thursday evening’s 84-66 win over the Hofstra Pride at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.

The Blue Hens came into the contest ranked No.15/No. 16 in the country and move to 17-1 on the year (8-0 CAA). The Pride fall to 14-5 on the year and 6-2 in CAA conference play.

The game was much closer than the final score suggests. The two teams were knotted at 37 heading into the break. However, a 14-0 run by Delaware midway through the second half was too much for the Pride to overcome.

Hofstra was led by junior All-American forward Shante Evans who had team-highs in points with 22 and rebounds with seven.

Sophomore guard Katelyn Loper scored 14 points, while junior forward Candice Bellocchio added 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

Hofstra falls to 1-9 all-time against ranked opponents with the loss to Delaware. The team’s lone win came against Michigan State in November 2006.
