All events take place in the area surrounding the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, found just off of the intersection of routes 90 and 59, near the Arboretum of South Barrington. Parking will be plentiful, with over 9000 spots available.
Each day of the festival holds a carnival for family fun. A wide variety of musical acts will perform on the main stage, just northwest of the arena, including the popular band Smash Mouth at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Although the festival offers a carnival, bingo, and music on Thursday, Friday is when the fest truly kicks in to high-gear.
Music begins at 1:30 p.m. with Jump Taxi (covering hits from the 80s to today), and continues throughout the day with Brian Lavender (country) at 3:30, Kashmir (Led Zepplin Tribute Band) at 6, and Modern Day Romeos (variety of crowd-pleasing cover music) at 8:30 and 10:15. A bags tournament and pie-eating contest will take place at 3 p.m. and 3:30, respectively.
Of course, as everyone will be looking for, fireworks begin at 9:30 and are visible from anywhere on festival grounds.
The fun continues through the weekend, with more entertainment, an arts and crafts show (housed inside the Sears Centre for those looking to stay out of the sun), and the continued carnival.
Best of all, admission (to both the festival and musical acts) and parking are free.
What better way to celebrate independence?
