GREENVILLE – A.I. duPont's girls basketball team hung with Hodgson Vo-Tech for a half Thursday afternoon, but the visiting Silver Eagles turned it up in the third quarter to take a 60-41 win going away.
A.I. was down by just three, 12-9, after one quarter, then fell behind by three more, 27-21, at halftime as Hodgson (10-0) turned up the defensive pressure, converting numerous Tigers turnovers to points. Junior Dynasty Williams led the way, scoring eight of her game-high 18 points in the second and senior Jordan Coleman added six off the bench.
It was all Hodgson in the second half as they outscored the Tigers, 33-20, to pull away. A.I. pulled to within five at 37-32, but a big three-point shot by sophomore Wynter McLaughlin ignited a 6-0 run to end the third.
The Tigers had just seven players, three of them freshmen. One of them, Lauryn Griffin, led her team with 12 points before she fouled out early in the final quarter. Junior Aonyae Easterling and senior Sarah O'Connor added nine points each.
A.I. (6-2) heads right back to the court, hosting Conrad tomorrow at 5 p.m. The Silver Eagles travel to Dover Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
