The Bait Shoppe on Lincoln Street in Rhinelander, Wisconsin is the new home to the Hodag Bassmasters Bass Club. The fishing club will hold their first monthly meeting of 2013 on Monday, March 4th at 7:00 p.m. at The Bait Shoppe. Any and all interested anglers are encouraged to attend. At this meeting the club will be picking lakes and dates for their 2013 tournament season.
The Hodag Bassmasters are always looking for new members. Anglers of all skill levels are welcome, and can join the club as either a boater or a non-boater. The minimum age for members is sixteen, and anyone born after 1989 must have completed a Boater's Safety course before applying to be a boater member.
The club holds nine tournaments per year and counts eight of those tournaments toward the angler's end-of-the-year weight totals. Awards are presented to the top half of anglers in the club at the end of the year.
Club dues are $20 per year. Anglers may decide to fish just for end-of-year points, but are encouraged to also pay for each tournament that they fish. The fee to get into the "money pot" for each tournament is $20, and the number of places paid out depends on the number of people who pay for each tournament. There is also a "big fish" side pot for $5. Each angler may opt to pay to enter that pot as well. That is paid back 100% to the angler with the biggest fish in each tournament.
The Hodag Bassmasters also participate in a DNR youth day known as Heritage Day every fall, and have participated in other conservation and education projects over the years. The club is always interested in helping with these efforts and any interested organization is encouraged to contact them on their Website for more information.
The club has set August 24th and 25th for the 2013 Boom Lake Open this year. It is the one fund raising event for the club each year, and all club members contribute to this open tournament each year.
Anyone who is interested in bass fishing, who would like to learn more about it, or who would like to share their skills and knowledge with others in the club is encouraged to attend a monthly meeting. Starting in March, meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month at The Bait Shoppe on Lincoln Street in Rhinelander.
