On February 17, 2013, for the first time in its history, Soldier Field will host outdoor college hockey in what’s being billed as the inaugural “Hockey City Classic.” At Noon CST the University of Notre Dame will take on Miami University, followed by the University of Minnesota versus the University of Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. CST. Tickets will range from $15 to $85.
The event will be preceded by two weeks of festivities including two days of free public ice skating, high school hockey events, youth and adult hockey events, and private ice rentals and (according to the event’s website) “much more.”
On February 1st, 2013, the Blackhawks Alumni Association will be presenting “Skate With the Greats.” The event will allow fans to be the first to skate on the ice with Blackhawks’ legends as well as an autograph session with Blackhawks’ ambassadors. Blackhawks’ greats that will be on hand for autographs, but won’t be skating, include Bobby Hull and Tony Esposito. Blackhawks’ alumni who will be present and taking shifts on the ice will include, but will not be limited to, the following: Cliff Koroll, Al Secord, and Murray Bannerman. Tickets are $100 for adults and $50 for children 12 and under.
The rink will feature a series of high school matchups the weekend of February 8-9.
