Hockey Canada unveiled the Team Canada 2010 hockey jerseys on Aug. 17, 2009. Made by Nike Canada, the jerseys will be worn at the 2010 Winter Games by the Canadian men's and women's ice hockey and ice sledge hockey teams.
In collaboration with Musqueam artist Debra Sparrow, Nike Canada designed a jersey that incorporates historical Canadian imagery with a contemporary look. Within a central maple leaf rest are smaller maple leafs, symbolizing the gold medal count for Canada's men's and women's hockey teams. Other symbolism includes a hockey player with a stick in hand and two First Nations icons -- the thunderbird and the eagle -- supporting the central maple leaf.
There are two versions of the jersey, red and white, that the teams will wear during competition. But you don't have to be on the team to wear one! The Team Canada 2010 Olympic replica jerseys, retailing for $135 CDN, are available in Nike stores across Canada, Hudson's Bay Company Bay stores and later this fall at Olympic Stores in Vancouver, Whistler and YVR. They'll also be sold in the Olympic Superstore, located at the Bay Downtown Vancouver. And of course online, at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Store.
