If I had a dollar for every time I have been called a 'hoarder', I might not mind the label so much. But considering I am the go to person for rope, string, wire, metal, blankets, fix-ups, and anything else "McGiver-like", I am tired of the term, 'Hoarder'! I have actually been asked, "are you one of those hoarders?".
While I do admit to being a pack rat, and a collector of many things, I find it odd that people don't recognize the fact that they GET STUFF FROM ME! Maybe if they weren't Minimalists! they'd have what they needed! In a rush to throw stuff away and clear clutter, they end up relying on a friendly neighbor, or a family member who tries to be prepared!
Don't under estimate the power of saving things that can be used! The simple fact of not having to run to the store every time you need something to do a repair; a nail, a piece of string, or an empty bucket, can save time, money, and frustration! Being prepared is a good thing.
Of course there are extremes; that is obvious. Living in filth, or pathways through stacks of stuff, is not safe or healthy. But considering the number of people whining about boredom, with nothing to do; a cluttered house always holds an activity! You can clean it, organize it, play with your stuff, or make things.
Sharing is one of life's greatest pleasures, and people who collect things are often great 'givers'! The next time you think you've identified a 'Hoarder', take the time to see the bigger picture; chances are ....THEY ARE HAPPIER THAN YOU ARE!
