Hitmen make trade with Royals

According to the Calgary Hitmen website on Wednesday, the Calgary Hitmen traded forward Braden Oleksyn to the Victoria Royals for forward Landon Welykholowa.

So far this season, Welykholowa has one goal in 18 games played, while Oleksyn has zero points in seven games.

Welykholowa's lone goal for the Royals this season came in a 4-3 Victoria victory over the Kelowna Rockets on November 28. A native of Calgary, Welykholowa is a 17 year old centerman who played with the Calgary Buffaloes of the Alberta Midget Hockey League.

Oleksyn, meanwhile has had better defensive numbers this season. He is a +2 compared to Welykholowa's -6.

The Hitmen are currently at 19-7-5, and are tied with the Edmonton Oil Kings for first place in the Eastern Conference with 43 points, while the Royals are 20-13-1 and are in fifth place in the Western Conference.

The Hitmen next play the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Note the start time is 7:30 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m. to accommodate Rogers Sportsnet.
