Hitmen beat top team in WHL

According to the Calgary Hitmen website, the Calgary Hitmen defeated the top team in the Western Hockey League, the Portland Winterhawks by a score of 4-1 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on Sunday afternoon.

Ukrainian right winger Pavel Padakin led the Hitmen offensive attack with two goals, while assistant captain Brady Brassart of Vernon, British Columbia also had a multi-point game as he notched two assists. Greg Chase, who leads the Hitmen this season with 17 goals and 30 points, and defenseman Kenton Helgesen also scored for Calgary.

The Hitmen are currently at 18-7-4 and are in second place in the Eastern Conference, only one point back of the conference leading Swift Current Broncos. The Winterhawks meanwhile have the best record in the WHL at 22-6-4. They are five places higher than the Hitmen in the overall WHL standings.

The Hitmen next play in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, and play in Lethbridge on Wednesday before returning home to play Medicine Hat again on Friday.
