Hitchens dead at 62

On Thursday December 15th, Christopher Hitchens died at 62 years old. Hitchens was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2010 and despite his ailment, he continued to debate, write, and lector against religion.

Atheists didn’t wait until he was dead to let him know how much we appreciated him. We understand that dead people can’t appreciate the nice things others have to say about them, so last month atheists on reddit created a tribute to Hitchens while he was still alive to hear the good things we had to say about him.

His book, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything catapulted Christopher Hitchens into a hero for many in the greater community of reason. But Hitchens didn’t rest on that publication. He continued to write, lector, and debate.

Hitchens did not have a death bed conversion and so according to most Christians he is being tortured for all eternity by a just and loving deity. Hitchens would want to make sure that those who believe such an absurdity are called out on it. He would no doubt point out this hypocrisy to all the religious believers who express sorrow at his passing.

Christopher Hitchens was the Mark Twain of our day and he will be deeply missed and long remembered.
