DUMB FRIENDS LEAGUE - The league's annual Wag `n Trail event will be Sept. 20 and registration is now open. The1.6-mile hike offers participants an opportunity to take their dogs and raise money at the same time.
Nestled in the metro Denver foothills at Glendale Farm Open Space, the event is a 15-minute drive from Denver. Besides the hike, people can shop for pet-friendly merchandise and view demonstrations.
Those who raise $75 or more and receive an official Wag `n Trail event long-sleeved T-shirt, a photo of them and their dog on the trail, and sample ice-cream treats.. You can get more prizes for higher fundraising levels. Information: (www.ddfl.org)
FOOTHILLS ANIMAL SHELTER - The ASPCA announced this week that Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden is again at the top of the leaderboard in Division Four of the 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. Foothills found homes for 1,720 pets during the first 60 days of the three-month competition, an increase of 534 lives saved over the same period last year.
Through August, 50 animal shelters from across the country are working to increase adoptions in order to win a piece of the more than $600,000 in ASPCA prize grants, including a grand prize of $100,000.
“Foothills Animal Shelter(www.foothillsanimalshelter.org) kicked off month two of the contest with a bang, doing a record-breaking 50 adoptions in the first hour of the day on July 4th,” said Bert Troughton, vice president of community outreach for the ASPCA. “In just 60 days, they found homes for more than 1,700 cats and dogs and show no signs of slowing down.”
ROCKY MOUNTAIN FELINE RESCUE -"Wine and Whiskers," a fundraiser for the Denver no-kill cat shelter, will be held Sept. 20 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bonacquesti Winery. Besides wine and appetizers, there will be live music and a silent auction.

FREEDOM SERVICE DOGS - The Englewood nonprofit that trains service dogs will hold its 7th Annual Doggie Plunge on Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pirates Cove, 1225 West Belleview Avenue in Littleton. While dogs enjoy the pool families can visit food trucks and participate in doggie activities.
