There has been so much devastation and really terrible news on TV over the last few months. Haiti, Chile and now Taiwan. It seems like only yesterday Haiti was struck with a terrible earthquake leaving thousands without homes food or even their loved ones. The world’s hearts have been softened and people are pouring the support to raise funds for these tragedy’s.
On March 12th, 2010 the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is hosting a “Hit For Haiti” exhibition match. The goal of this event is to raise $1,000,000 to benefit the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Development Fund. Fund-raising will consist of on-site, text messaging and private donations.
Oracle is presenting this event which will host 8 of the best tennis players to ever play the game with a combined 99 grand slam titles. The event was initially going to have Federer and Sampras against Nadal and Agassi, however, a second match has been added with Graf and Davenport taking on Navratilova and Henin. The women will play first with the men to follow.
This is truly one of the most amazing exhibitions ever put together. This exhibition is extremely impressive 99 Grand Slam title holders on Stadium Court, for one night, to raise money for a country in ruins by a dramatic earthquake.
With a four hour drive to Indian Wells from Phoenix, make plans to hit the event and support a country in need. This is the largest 2 week non Grand Slam tournament with over 300 of the worlds best players in the world.
