Models and McLarens will be part of the 72nd Members' Meeting at Goodwood this coming weekend. Goodwood revealed via its Twitter account on Wednesday, March 26, that the turbo Formula 1 McLaren race cars promised to be on hand for the weekend arrived today at the historic race track in West Sussex, England. Male fashion model and car enthusiast, David James Gandy, was also photographed as one of the people expected to add glamor to the already star-studded occasion of historic racing cars zipping around a British country estate in early spring.
According to Goodwood, McLaren F1 turbo-charged race cars expected on the premises for this racing weekend include Niki Lauda's 1984 MP4/2-01 and Alain Prost's 1986 MP4/2C-05. The turbo cars have particular interest for enthusiasts this year, since the 2014 season Formula 1 cars have returned to turbo-charged engines. Going into the Malaysian Grand Prix also held this coming weekend, McLaren holds an initial lead in the 2014 constructors' championship after the first race of the season in Melbourne, Australia.
Besides notable racing drivers such as Sir Stirling Moss, Jochen Mass, and others participating or being in attendance at the races for the 72nd Members' Meeting, according to Goodwood, fashionable historic car enthusiasts like model, David James Gandy, will also be there to add their own touch of glamor to the occasion.
In addition to races in several categories, the weekend will feature meals in the Great Hall of the Goodwood Estate with Lord March and his family, a party, games, fireworks, and other activities to entertain members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club (GRRC) and their guests.
This is the first time since the 1960s that Goodwood is hosting a members' meeting of car enthusiasts and historic racers like this. It is resurrecting a tradition of meetings held by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) in the 1950s and 60s at the estate.
The new spring Members' Meeting adds a third motor major racing event to the Goodwood season calendar which includes the already popular Festival of Speed in the summer and the Goodwood Revival in the fall.
