The oldest golf course in Palm Springs, The O’Donnell Golf Course, is offering seasonal memberships allowing more golfers and visitors to play this historic course. For a limited time, visitors, snowbirds, and short term tourists can obtain access to The O’Donnell Golf Club by purchasing a short term membership. These special memberships range from one to five months and can be obtained without an initiation fee. Monthly fees are $500 per month while seasonal social memberships are $300 per month. As is the case for all members, there are no “tee” times at O’Donnell as golfers can start a round of play at anytime during the day.
The course was planned in 1927 and subsequently built by Thomas A. O’Donnell, an oilman who came to Palm Springs and purchased the land in 1925. O’Donnell designed the golf course with palm trees, oleanders and tamarisks, and Bermuda and rye grasses. The course never has been allowed to die during the years since it was constructed and now forms a cushioned turf so greatly appreciated by the golfing members and guests. The greens are bent grass, which during the summer, and can be challenging to maintain. The course includes nine holes with two tee positions for each hole and is SCGA rated. O'Donnell Golf Club is also very unique in that there are no "tee" times.
After operating the golf course for more than fifteen years at his own expense, Tom O'Donnell in 1944 organized O'Donnell Golf Club as a private, non-profit club to which he gave a 99-year lease for the golf course, the reservoir property and the 750 shares of Whitewater Mutual stock.
The club offers a variety of memberships including the seasonal variety. For more information contact Sally or Kimberly at (760) 325-2259.
