The Historic Flight Foundation is hosting its sixth annual Vintage Aircraft Weekend in Mukilteo August 30-September 1, 2013. The Labor Day weekend event will feature vintage civilian and military aircraft from Historic Flight and the nearby Flying Heritage Collection. They will be joined by up to 65 visiting aircraft, and the event will highlight aviation during the three decades between Lindbergh's solo crossing of the Atlantic in 1927 and commercialized Boeing jet service of the same route in 1957.
The three-day festival kicks off on Friday, August 30 with the arrival of aircraft throughout the day. In the evening, a Big Band Dinner Dance begins at 6PM. There will be group swing dance lessons led by guest professionals, and attendees are encouraged to wear vintage attire from the 1940s.
Saturday is the main event, which begins at 9 AM. Activities include flying sessions of vintage aircraft and visitors may walk the flight line and get a close-up look at the vintage aircraft. They can also chat with the pilots and mechanics and listen as WWII re-enactors and Flying Legends recount their tales. The family-friendly event also includes aircraft memorabilia, vintage automobiles and military vehicles, speakers, live music and food vendors.
The weekend's final flight wraps things up at 5 PM on Sunday, and there will be time to visit with the pilots as they prepare to take off and fly home. Rides will be also offered in open cockpit biplanes and aboard Historic Flight's DC3 throughout the day. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door (family passes $25).
Vintage Aircraft Weekend is hosted in conjunction with its Paine Field partners (Paine Field/Snohomish County Airport; Flying Heritage Collection; Future of Flight; The Museum of Flight Restoration Center); North American Trainer Association; and Snohomish County Tourism.
