Aroused by the sight of her face, empowered by her presence and mesmerized by the way she smiled, Isabella was inspiration, his motivation, his reason. They were everything to each other in synchronized harmony; there were no arguments and never a dull moment.
It was love, they were happy together and everything was perfect until Yves made a swift decision to answer destiny’s call.
Isabella and Yves met at the engagement party of a common friend and at first sight, he knew he wanted her; after a week of communication over the phone, they met for the first time and magic happened instantaneously. Chemistry was abundant and they dated for about six months.
Unsure about what they meant for each other, Isabella decided to ask if they were ‘permanent’.
A moment of predicament came along.
He was destined to be free, there was so much to do and the last thing he needed was someone to hold him back. How could he maintain what they shared without risking losing her?
He decided to lie and created an entire scenario; when the words “I love you but I’m not in love with you” was heard, the conversation turned into silence and the relationship ended with an abrupt disconnect.
Over shadowed by darkness of hurt, Isabella was broken into uncorrelated fractions; the light of her spirits diminished into a faint glow, as if lifeless and breathless, her radiance subsided.
Yves never thought for a moment that his words would cause damage to such a degree. When learned of how badly she reacted, he felt as if a sword pierced through his heart and felt an overbearing pressure within him.
He began to miss her more each day and realized not only did he love her, but was very much in love with her. He would do anything to see her smile again, everything impossible just to be with her, even if it meant for him to give up his freedom.
After numerous attempts to reach her, he was ecstatic to finally hear her voice over the phone, that sweet angelic voice that sent chills throughout his body. His excitement turned into misery as she demanded him to ‘disappear and never to call again in this lifetime’.
Her love for him has turned into hatred; the fragile line between love and hate was crossed and she was not going to return.
He questioned himself every now and then if freedom was worth the price of love; it has been two years now and he still get aroused by the sight of her face - on the screensaver of his laptop.
Lies could backfire and Yves has learned a valuable lesson; never take for granted that apologies will always be well received; once said and heard, words cannot be retracted. He was too late and still remorse over his loss. A piece of his heart was left behind in memory lane and unable to catch up.
For Isabella, rejection was a loud and deafening wake up call to turn the page for what was truly meant to be. She did just that and continued on to the next chapter of her love life.
