His Holiness the Dalai Lama has often expressed a deep interest in science and in particular how science relates to an understanding of the human mind. The Central Tibetan Administration reported on Sept. 26, 2013, "Tibetan Scholars Meet His Holiness to Review Buddhist Science Textbook."
Conversations between the Dalai Lama and modern scientists over the years have nurtured the development of such thriving collaborations as the Mind & Life Institute, which is a non-profit organization aimed at building a scientific understanding of the mind to help lessen suffering and promote well-being. Scientific interest has grown regarding what ancient Indian thought, and Buddhist literature in particular, has to say about such phenomena as the mind and emotions.
It is the position of the Dalai Lama that although interest in material dealing with spiritual practice might be limited to Buddhists, material which is related to Buddhist science and philosophy could have a much wider academic and intellectual appeal. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been reviewing Buddhist scientific texts dealing with the mind with Tibetan scholars, with an understanding that an understanding of reality comes when we talk about the human mind.
