His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been working hard for a better future for Tibet as he often shares prayers for a brighter future for Tibetans and mankind. On April 1, 2013, the Central Tibetan Administration has reported, His Holiness the Dalai Lama hopes for change in Tibet. The Dalai Lama recently addressed Tibetans in Salugara on the devolution of his political responsibilities to the elected Tibetan leadership and on initiatives to resolve the issue of Tibet.
His Holiness has explained that it is now about two years since he devolved his political responsibilities to the elected Tibetan leadership. The Dalai Lama himself has retired, while also bringing an end to the involvement of the Dalai Lamas in the political affairs of Tibet, which is a role that began with the Fifth Dalai Lama nearly four hundred years ago. Nevertheless, the Dalai Lama has said he remains a Tibetan with whom the Tibetan people continue to place their faith and trust, and therefore he retains a responsibility to speak up for them when he can.
When asked by the press what he expects from Xi Jinping, the Dalai Lama replied that it is still too early and difficult to say. However, he has acknowledged that he knew his father. The Dalai Lama said that "we can view the last 60 years in China in four phases: the ideological period of Mao; the economic developments of Deng Xiaoping; the welcoming of the wealthy into the party under Jiang Zemin; and Hu Jintao’s slogan about harmony and unity. There has been change, he said, and further change will come, but it may not happen soon."
