When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Matthew 9:36-38 NIV
There are several things in this scripture that we should take note of, most importantly; God is the Lord or master of the Harvest, it is His harvest.
He wants us to pray for workers to be sent into His harvest field. When was the last time you prayed for more workers in the Kingdom?
He decides when the harvest is ripe. While you might think the harvest is ready - He actually knows when it's ready.
He determines who will harvest the field. You may think you're one of the harvesters but you may be a planter, or one who waters. It is all up to Him; who plants, who waters, who gathers the harvest - because it is His harvest field.
Let's face it, planting and watering are hard work, and you don't immediately see the results. Reaping or bringing in the harvest is much more gratifying. We often see the end result of the labor. I think this fact causes many of us to want to be reapers only, not willing to put in the time and effort required when planting.
If you're a planter, or one who waters, please start planting and watering, so that those, whom He has appointed to gather the Harvest, can do so.
