There’s nothing like a new album. Its new look, new sound, and new focus are just a few reasons why we become drawn to it. 2014 arrived with a lot of long-awaited projects and artists finally fulfilling promises of new material. A number of hip hop heavyweights are getting back on their grind, and among them are Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and the lyrically gifted Nas. What can we expect from these albums? Will they feature the familiar flavor that we love, or will different waters be tested? Just as the snow fades and flowers bloom, I present to you my top 3 most anticipated Hip Hop albums for Spring 2014.
Rick Ross – Mastermind (Album)

Rozay returns! Rick Ross’s Mastermind is highly anticipated for many reasons.
Ross spoke about the background of the album saying, that in the past year he has experienced many things, which were the muses for both the passion and aggression that was displayed throughout its creation. In true Rozay fashion, he said that it’s important use coming from where you come from, to take it wherever you want to go to. He said that the minute that a person obtains this power is when they can consider themselves a mastermind. He decided to push the album back from its original December 17, 2013, release date, stating that he was still putting the final touches on it. With Rozay at the helm, surely it’s worth the wait. Mastermind also features guest appreances from Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Meek Mill among others.
Lil Wayne – Tha Carter V (Album)
Release Date: May 5, 2014:
Weezy is back! After creating countless hits for himself, as well as many others, Weezy is about to add another masterpiece to his repertoire. On February 10, 2014, hip hop superstar and label mate Drake, tweeted "Carter V". On October 18, 2013, Cash Money Records Vice President of Promotion Mel Smith tweeted that new music was coming soon. Nearly four months later, in a February 14, 2014, interview, Smith spoke on the upcoming album, stating that the release date was near. The very next day, during Sprite’s NBA All-Star concert at the House of Blues in New Orleans, Lil Wayne appeared as a special guest during Drake's set and performed some memorable hits. Wayne and Drake then announced that Tha Carter V is set to release on May 5, 2014.
Nas – Illmatic XX
Release Date: April 15, 2014
Nas has announced he'll be releasing a special 20th anniversary edition of his debut album the iconic Illmatic. Newly titled Illmatic XX, the album will ironically be released on April 15, which is four days away from its original April 19 release date in 1994. Illmatic XX will include a remastered disc of Illmatic, as well as an extra disc of demos, remixes, and unreleased records from during that time of Nas' career.
Nas will also be touring this year to celebrate this milestone for Illmatic, where he plans to perform the entire album. Though a few dates have been confirmed, more show dates will be released soon.
