This year's NHL All-Star game was played in Ottawa on Sunday, January 29th, featuring some of the world's greatest hockey players and a guest appearance by one star who didn't lace up: hip hop platinum-selling artist Drake.
Like most Canadians (Drake was born in Toronto), the rapper grew up on the sport so it's all too fitting that he was chosen as the performer for the event. "If you're proud to be a Canadian tonight, I want to hear you make some noise one time," he shouted right before he displayed his famous lyrical talents on the ice during the second intermission - a nod to his heritage and the country where the sport of hockey is the national religion.
Sporting a custom-made NHL jersey with his name, Drake took the time to shake hands with just about every player in the locker room before making his way to the center of the arena. He asked Evgeni Malkin (who plays center for the Pittsburgh Penguins) for a stick and told three Toronto players that it was "an honor" to perform at this year's NHL All-Star Game. The feeling was mutual, as Drake signed his first hockey stick for Phoenix Coyotes player Keith Yandle and many of the All-Star players took pictures of him with their phones while the hip hop superstar performed his single "Headlines."
While his performance was tough to compete with, Marian Gaborik stole some of the spotlight from Drake when he scored his 32nd hat trick of the season - his 13th in the month of January.
Drake is nominated for four Grammy's this year and officials for the Awards show have confirmed that he will also be presenting. Will the rap star continue to shine on February 12th by clinching at least one Grammy Award?
