Last summer’s ‘Hip Hop Don’t Stop’ event not only gave Fargo a larger-than-life aerosol art mural, but also a better understanding of the hip hop scene and urban culture.
Now, HHDS is back to bring more art and further promote hip hop in the community. Last year's event took place primarily in the parking lot of the Plains Art Museum, where artists spray painted a graffi-inspired mural. This year, artists will display their aerosol painting skills at Gasper’s School of Dance, 524 7th St. N., Fargo.
Like its predecessor, the event features many hip hop musicians and aerosol artists, according to the Plains Art Museum. Artists include EAST, EMIT, QUISP, JAWSH and DAESK. Hip hop musicians include Blueprint, Wide Eyes, Big Zach, Kipp G, DJ Stupid Birthday, Toby Beatbox & Slow Kid, Charlie Mizza and Philly Kid.
HHDS2 kicks off Fri., July 9 at 9 a.m. at Gaspar’s. Following the day’s mural creation, EAST will give a lecture on aerosol art at the Plains, 704 1st Ave. N., before a breakdancing competition and DJ show at the Venue, 2525 9th Ave. S., starting at 5 p.m. Events at Gaspar’s and the Plains are all ages and free-of-charge. However, the Venue is a 21+ establishment. Advanced tickets for the Venue show (available at Tickets 300) are $10; tickets at the door are $12.
Aerosol art mural creation carries on through Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.
