New Year's Resolutions may be crumbling in Portland as ChocolateFest 2013 offers delectable chocolate delights and intoxicating libations.
On January 18-20, the Oregon Convention Center will open its doors to over 60 chocolatiers and a handful of wineries. Portland's own urban winery, Hip Chicks Do Wine, will be present and sampling several of their bottles.
If you miss the ChocolateFest, fear not, you can always visit these wine mavericks in inner southeast Portland, where the tasting room is open 11am – 6pm daily. Sample the current offerings of Chardonnay, Muscat and Pinot Gris, which are all fermented in stainless steel, and Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, which are aged in French oak barrels. These Hip Chicks keeps wine tasting fun, friendly and attitude-free. With fruit forward flavors and pocket protecting prices, you might walk out with a bottle or six.
The best part if you live in Portland? The missing hour-drive to wine country and that nasty mess we call 99 W. While more and more urban wineries seem to be popping up around Portland, The Hip Chicks have been serving vino since August 2001.
