Hinton Battle is one of Broadway’s most respected musical stars. His resume lists an impressive body of work in entertainment as actor (DreamGirls, Smash, Broadway Musicals), singer (When I Walk), dancer (The Tap Dance Kid) and choreographer (Idlewild) among many other achievements.
Hinton Battle is scheduled to release his latest effort entitled “Something New,” on Tuesday, June 3rd 2014 at all digital music outlets. It’s a new album (EP) produced by Hinton along with Lee Pearson. All arrangements are done by Battle, Pearson and Terrahn ‘Terry’ Brewer.
The album features an all star cast of musicians - Lee Pearson on drums, Terrahn ‘Terry’ Brewer on piano/keys, Theljon Allen on wind instruments, Samir Moulay on guitar, Romeir Mendez and Zach Brown on bass.
Hinton grew up in the Washington DC area and started his journey in the arts at a very early age and around the age of thirteen relocated to NY to continue his study in singing, dancing, ballet dance and acting at The School of American Ballet. Two years later Hinton began his career playing the role of the scarecrow in The Wiz.
As a choreographer, Hinton’s credits include the 65th and 66th Academy Awards, the Outkast musical film, Idlewild for which he created a new dance style SWOP (a union of swing and hip-hop). Additionally he has directed and choreographed ballets for the Baltimore School of the Arts, Washington Reflections Dance Company, and Philadanco.
Hinton directed and choreographed the Off-Broadway musicals Respect, The Marvelous Wonderettes, the stage production of Evil Dead: The Musical and he is currently one of the producers of the hit Off-Broadway show, Sistas: The Musical, entering its third year at St. Luke’s Theatre in New York City and aired 2013 on BET.
