Another famous literary orphan is making his way to the South Shore. The story has intrigue, mischief, and endearing moments set to a beautiful soundtrack. Hingham Civic Music Theatre proudly announces auditions for a musical based on a classic Charles Dickens novel. It is also the first successful musical adaptation of his novels. ‘Oliver’ is the musical based on the classic novel, ‘Oliver Twist,’ which is currently on a London tour in honor of the novel’s bicentennial. It contains one of the most famous requests in literature, “Please sir. I want some more.”
‘Oliver’ has run on Broadway, enjoyed several tours in different parts of the world, and many revivals. It is the story of a poverty-stricken workhouse orphan whose hopes and dreams for prosperity go well beyond the workhouse doors. With beautiful musical numbers such as ‘As Long As He Needs Me,’ ‘Consider Yourself,’ and ‘I’d Do Anything,’ this stirring musical drama has a cast of vibrant and compelling characters.
Hingham Civic Music Theatre is casting for the roles of Fagin, Mr. Bumble, ensemble, and children’s ensemble roles. Kids ages 8 and older are welcome to audition. Auditions are set for Wednesday, January 23 and Thursday, January 24 at the Sanborn Auditorium, 210 Central Street in Hingham, Massachusetts at 7 p.m. Please bring sheet music and be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song that best showcase your abilities.
