Hilton Head’s Noonan heads USCB soccer recruits

The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) women's soccer team added seven recruits for the 2013 season Wednesday, head coach Ed Heberling announced. Highlighting the recruiting class is Bridgette Noonan, a midfielder for two-time defending Class 3-A state champion Hilton Head Island High School.

Noonan is joined by fellow midfielders Shannon Blair (Fort Mill, SC) and Jamie Smith (Locust Grove, GA), forwards Cameron Croney-Clark (Paris, KY) and Brittany Lorentz (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) and defenders Brittany Pacifico (Palm Coast, FL) and Caroline Bowman (Shelby, NC).

"We are excited to have these young ladies join the Sand Shark soccer program," Heberling said. "After a tremendous second season, our goals and expectations have increased. I feel this recruiting class will fill some holes we have and give us some more depth to be more competitive next season. These future Sand Sharks, in addition to our returning players, will continue to raise the bar and help take our program to another level next season."

Heberling was named inaugural head coach of the USCB Sand Sharks in 2011 and spent six months recruiting and putting together his first team, which consisted mostly of women just out of high school. He said at the time that the current players would be the foundation to allow the team to grow and develop and that has proven to be true.

In its second season, USCB women’s soccer finished with a 9-10 overall mark and qualified for The Sun Conference tournament in 2012.

The Sand Sharks lost four seniors but will return most of their top players in 2013, including 2012 All-Sun Conference goalkeeper Chelsie Mummert, top point-scorer Jessica Tooley and the three players who tied for the team lead in goals — Stephanie Moldenhauer, Maddie Zak and Olivia Dizon.
