Cool off for a day or two with a dip in Hillsdale Lake. Located off Hwy 7 between Olathe and Paola, Hillsdale State Park offers boating, fishing, swimming, nature trails, horse trails and camping. Fifty-one miles of shoreline give visitors a feeling of space and the outdoors.
The camping facilities range from primitive to full hookups. This beautiful state park is clean and not crowded. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.
All state parks require a state park vehicle permit. Hunting is not allowed in the state park but the nearby wildlife area offers many hunting opportunities. All hunting, fishing and boating are subject to state laws.
Birders can check along the shorelines and marsh areas for shorebirds and waterfowl. Pelicans and eagles have been sighted.
Hillsdale is one of the newer reservoirs in Kansas, completed in 1982. The park has managed to keep its almost new look. Below the dam, an area has been set aside for model airplane flyers.
The park and lake offer enough diversity to please every member of the family. For more information, visit kdwpt.state.ks.us/news/State-Parks/Locations/Hillsdale.
