Hillary Clinton shoe: Ducks flying shoe with reflexes of dodge ball champ

Hillary Clinton’s reflexes are spot on, but the same can’t be said for her perception when a shoe came flying out of the audience hurling toward her head. Clinton ducked, looking like she was used to dodging fast flying objects, but she stood back up straight asking, “Was that a bat?” Did she think she was at a baseball game?

This happened when a woman threw a shoe at her during her speech in Vegas. Hillary stayed cool, calm and very collected through the ordeal, according to the Huffington Post on April 11.

She didn’t make the distinction between what type of bat she was talking about, but she thought that she ducked for a bat that came flying by her way. Was Clinton thinking the bat was a flying bird-like creature or a bat, like the tool used for playing baseball?

A woman in the crowd took off her shoe and she whipped that footwear right at Hillary. It was going at a good clip and the reflexes demonstrated by the former Secretary of State suggest that she was probably one heck of a dodge ball player when she was a kid.

After the shoe whizzes by Hillary she placed her hand above her eyes to block out the bright light and scan the area of the audience to see where the “bat” came from. She did this as the secret service quickly ushered the woman who chucked the shoe at Clinton out of the auditorium. She was very gracious and not at all shaken by the close call with shoe. According to the Times Union today, to put folks at ease she referenced one of the popular shows in Vegas, when making a joke saying:

"Is that somebody throwing something at me?" Clinton asked, "Is that part of Cirque de Soleil?"

The Mandalay Bay resort hosted the venue where Hillary was speaking. The woman who threw the shoe didn’t deny doing so, but she didn’t offer up a reason as to why she did it. It wasn’t immediately known what charges this woman would face for taking aim at Clinton with her shoe, but she is in custody.

A woman seated in the second row said she saw an orange object fly by the stage and then some papers “fluttering in the air.” The woman threw some papers along with the shoe apparently.

The perpetrator had walked up to the rope, which was used to block off the stage from row six back, and she threw the shoe and the papers. She then turned and walked away throwing her hands up in the air. This is when the secret service officers caught up with her and quickly escorted her out of the auditorium.

Clinton has been traveling the country giving a number of paid speeches to various organizations and businesses. This shoe throwing incident was a reminder back to the time when President George W. Bush had a shoe thrown at him.

An Iraqi journalist threw the shoe at the president during a news conference in Baghdad in December 2008. Shoe-throwing is considered a major insult in Arab cultures. Check out the clip on the video above to see Hillary dodge the shoe.
