Hillary Clinton: Benghazi backlash is ‘More of a reason’ to run in 2016

Hillary Clinton, the former First Lady and U.S. Secretary of State, consented to a wide-ranging, no-holds-barred interview with ABC News’ anchor Diane Sawyer, which aired last night on ABC News in primetime. One of the subjects of interest and a question that Hillary Clinton discussed at length was the criticism over her handling of the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. Hillary Clinton was asked if her handling of the aftermath of the crisis were a "reason" she would not run for president in 2016.

In typical Hillary Clinton fashion, she said that the crisis in Benghazi, Libya, gives her "more of a reason" to run for president in 2016 than a reason not to.

"Actually, it’s more of a reason to run, because I do not believe our great country should be playing minor league ball. We ought to be in the majors,” Clinton said. "I view this as really apart from — even a diversion from — the hard work that the Congress should be doing about the problems facing our country and the world."

Clinton stressed that she does not think there was anything more she could have done to stop the Benghazi attack.

"Well, I certainly would give anything on earth if this had not happened," she said. "And I certainly would wish that we had made some of the changes that came to our attention to make as a result of the investigation. But I also am clear in my own mind that we had a system and that system, of course, ended with me. I take responsibility, but I was not making security decisions."

Clinton continued, going into a bit more detail than previous interviews on the subject. "What I did was give very direct instructions that the people who have the expertise and experience in security. I’m not equipped to sit and look at blueprints, to determine where the blast walls need to be or where the reinforcements need to be. That’s why we hire people who have that expertise."

The real reason Hillary Clinton consented to the interview with Diane Sawyer, that was broadcast Monday evening, is to promote her new memoir, "Hard Choices." There is also that presidential thing in 2016, which she also addressed in the interview.
