The Hilary Duff breakup with her husband, Mike Comrie, is an amicable separation that didn’t stem from any particular incident but came after the two tried to patch things up in couples therapy, ABC News reported on Jan. 10.

Despite the Hilary Duff breakup with Comrie, Duff’s publicist said that the two are still “best friends.”

Hilary Duff, 26, and Mike Comrie, 33, were married in August 2010 and have a son, Luca Cruz, now 21 months old.

According to People magazine, the Hilary Duff breakup occurred simply because the couple “drifted apart.” Further details about what caused that so-called drift weren’t provided by People magazine’s unnamed “source close to Duff.”

According to the source, the Hilary Duff breakup doesn’t seem to be leading to any sort of nasty custody battle. The source said that Hilary Duff, an actress-singer, and Comrie, a former hockey pro, plan to coparent their son and have already taken him to parks together since their breakup. Last October, Duff had told the magazine that Comrie was a great dad, loving and caring.

So far, though, there is nothing about the Hilary Duff breakup on Duff’s official website — just pictures and blurbs about her gigs and life at home. However, according to Access Hollywood, Duff did thank fans via Twitter for their words of encouragement and said that she and Comrie were together when news of their breakup hit the media.

“Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together,” she posted on Twitter as news of the Hilary Duff breakup spread.
