Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie calling it quits

After almost three-and-a-half years of marriage, former Disney Channel actress Hilary Duff has announced that she and her husband, former NHL player Mike Comrie, are separating.

According to E! News on Friday, one of Duff's representatives confirmed the news to the outlet but stressed that the breakup is amicable and decided upon mutually. No particular catalyst or incident is said to be a cause, but the rep's statement says the couple "did drift apart."

Duff, 26, and Comrie, 33, were married in Santa Barbara, Calif. in August 2010 after about three years of dating. In March 2012, they welcomed their first child, Luca Cruz Comrie. Duff's publicist also reportedly said that the couple "remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives."

They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time," the statement added.

Duff acknowledged the separation on her personal Twitter account Friday afternoon:

Mike and I are sitting here,we are so appreciative for all of your kindness& well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together"

Though the split was said to have been thought through for a long time, Duff and Comrie showed that they still enjoy each other's company when they were spotted enjoying a day in the park without their son earlier this week. They also took Luca to Disneyland for the first time late last month.
