Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie are separating after three years of marriage, according to Time Entertainment on Jan. 11.

Hilary Duff's rep stated that Duff and Comrie have mutually decided to a friendly separation. Duff's rep went on to say that they will continue to remain best friends to each other and parents to their almost 2-year-old son.

A source close to both Duff and Comrie insists that their separation did not stem from any one incident. They simply drifted apart, but first tried couple's therapy before deciding on the split.

Duff and Comrie dated for three years before marrying in August 2010. The now 26-year-old actress and her 33-year-old retired NHL player husband welcomed their son into the world in March 2012.

Last October at a book signing in Los Angeles, Duff told reporters that Comrie is "an amazing father" and even talked about expanding their family, saying that she "would like to try for a girl".

The couple announced that they plan to co-parent their son Luca Cruz Comrie. Duff tweeted on Friday after their split became public that they appreciate everyone's kindness and well-wishes.

"Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together," tweeted Duff.
