Hiking the Tulare Santa Fe Trail is a great way to get out for free. This hiking trail starts in Tulare. One can go hiking from down town Tulare all th way to the eastern and western sections of Tulare. The hiking trail weaves through downtown Tulare to the commercial area and then to the residential areas. The hiking trail is extremely wide so it is easy for one to go horse back riding, hiking, bicycling, and more. There are trees along the majority of the hiking trail to help keep you cool while hiking. There is also distance markers along the majority of the hiking trail. Each mile is marked so you can use this for training for marathons. You also can go out early in the morning as the central area of the trail is lighted for the majority of the hiking trail.
You can access the hiking trail from State Route 99. Take 99 south from Fresno and exit at East Prosperity Avenue. Follow the road east for just under 2 miles until you reach the trail head and then continue to the shopping center. Park at the shopping center and walk back to the trail head. Alternatively you can park at the residential neighborhood south of West Soults Drive. Unfortunately there is not much parking, if any by the trail head. However the 4.8 mile trail is a fun and amazing hiking experience.
