Enjoy hiking in the Caswell Memorial State Park. As you are hiking in the Caswell Memorial State Park you may feel like you went back in time. As you are hiking here you get to see amazing woodlands that have disappeared in many other areas. The oak forests you pass as you are hiking are amazing. Some of the trees are over 60 feet high and over 17 feet in circumference. Additionally as you are hiking you pass many fishing holes. Some of the fish caught in these holes include striped, largemouth, and smallmouth bass). Additionally as you are hiking you will pass many swimming areas. The hiking path takes you by many historical areas. As you are hiking look for the historical plaque of Estanislaos. The plaque notes the 1829 skirmish where Mexican soldiers found Indians.

If you are hiking the best season for comfort is typically spring and fall. During the spring and fall you will typically see a multitude of birds. Many of the birds in the area nest during this time of the year. Additionally during the Spring and Fall the area is green. Additionally during the Spring and Fall you can opten frind wild grapes and blackberries as you are hiking.

If you are going during the summer you can ofen go hiking on a tour with a park staff. It is not uncommon for them to have nature walks on Saturday mornings during the summer. The nature trail is a short hiking trail that loops through grape and blackberry bushes along the bank of the Stanislaus River.

You can reach the trailhead from Highway 99. As you are driving north on Highway 99 past Modesto you exit at Ripon. You then follow West Main Street through the town of Ripon. You pass farm land and some roadside stands typically. You turn left on Austin Road and continue for about 2.5 miles until you reach the park. Please be aware that this is a state park so there is likely an admission fee charged to enter and go hiking.
