This is yet another great hike within the Sequoia National Forest just an hour or less drive from Fresno. It is a short hike that one can take to see the largest tree within the park, just follow the right fork at the trailhead and climb up through the shady mile to see some beautiful yellow pines until you reach this huge tree.
The nearest city is Wilsonia. It is not too close but close enough to stop along the way here or back. The benefit of this trail is the elevation which is high enough to provide some benefit but not so high to make it too tough for city dwellers. The trailhead elevation is 6,280 feet and the maximum elevation is only 6,830 feet. The total trail round trip is only 2.4 miles with virtually no slope throughout. The hike can be done in an hour and possibly less depending on your speed. The best time to do this hike is Early spring or late fall. If you would like to get a topography map the USGS Hume map includes this trail.
