The Backbone Trail is the longest hiking trail in the Santa Monica Mountains measuring 65 miles from Will Rogers State Historic Park to Point Mugu State Park. The one time dream trail is now nearly complete, with just a couple unfinished stretches standing in the way of a true thru-hike.
Would you like to hike the entire Backbone Trail over eight saturdays in the first four months of 2012? Sign up with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to join the docent led journey across Malibu. Hikes will be held on the second and fourth saturdays of each month from January to April. Visit the Santa Monica Mountains Backbone Trail Page for more information and to sign up. Space is limited. Registration begins on November 1, 2011.
