According to the Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament website, the Highwood Raiders won their opening game in women's hockey of the 2013-14 Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament in Calgary on Thursday.

The Raiders, who are based out of High River, over a half hour south of Calgary, defeated the Spruce Grove PAC Saints 3-2.

Cassidy Trotter scored the game winning goal for the Raiders at 3:08 of the third period from Teagan Borbandy at Max Bell Centre to open the tournament. Remarkably they would become the only team from the Calgary area, on the men's or women's side to record a victory on day one.

One of the biggest stories on the men's side was the play of the Finnish under-17 team, who looks like will be a dynamic force in the coming week. On Boxing Day, they trounced a team from North Battleford, Saskatchewan by a score of 9-1.

The Lloydminster PWM Steelers won the most lopsided game on the women's side, as they trounced the Melville FOX FM Prairie Fire 5-0.
