A Highway 85 accident in Cupertino, Calif. on Monday left one young girl dead and three others injured. A woman driving a minivan was parked on the shoulder of the highway and a man ran off the road and crashed into the back of their vehicle. The scene was described as being quite horrific, and ABC7 shared the details.

At this time it is unknown why the Mazda minivan was parked on the shoulder. The Highway 85 accident happened Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. A man driving a Jeep Wrangler is said to have veered off the road and into the rear of the minivan.

The young girl who is believed to have been about 5 years old died immediately. The girl's brother as well as the driver of the minivan, believed to be the mother of the two children, were injured and transported to the hospital. The young boy had moderate injuries while the woman had minor injuries. It is reported that both children were in booster seats or car seats.

The NBC Bay Area Twitter account shared a couple of photos from the scene, and they are stunning. Both vehicles are severely damaged, and some might wonder how there were not additional casualties. It is said an additional vehicle also ran into the minivan during the incident as the minivan was propelled into traffic on the highway. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured in the Highway 85 accident.

The Jeep driver has not been identified. He is said to be a 56-year-old man who is from San Jose. He had major injuries, but little more is known about his condition at this point. It is also unknown what caused the Jeep to swerve and crash. The investigation into the Highway 85 accident continues, and more information should become available soon.
