Highlights of Tim DeChristopher's acceptance letter as read by Joan Gregory

The Salt Lake City Bioneers awarded Tim DeChristopher the Bioneer of the Year award during the 2011 Bioneers Conference at Westminster College on October 28, 2011.  Joan Gregory, former Bioneer of the Year award winner and currently the Chair of the Board for Peaceful Uprising, accepted the award on Tim’s behalf.

Joan read a letter of acceptance from Tim DeChristopher, who could not accept the award because he is currently serving time in prison as the results of his actions as Bidder 70.

“Our challenge is not a technical one or an economic one; it is a political one,” wrote Tim.

Tim also wrote that he “must be doing something right” to win the same award that Joan had won earlier.  He wished that he could accept the award in person, “but I think I’m exactly where I need to be right now.”

Joan finished reading the letter and accepted the award.

“I hope that [this conference] will be the push that moves you to action,” said Joan.

Tim DeChristopher was sentenced to two year in prison for bidding at an illegal government auction of public lands.

He cofounded Peaceful Uprising, a group that is looking for social justice and a livable world.
