Examiner.com was on the scene for all of the festivities surrounding Z100's Jingle Ball 2013. We started our day at the Z100 & Coca-Cola All Access Lounge (the official pre-show to Z100’s Jingle Ball in New York City) on Dec. 14 at Hammerstein Ballroom. With performances by Austin Mahone, the My Hometown Hero winner, Travie McCoy, Paramore, and Fifth Harmony, fans had a taste of what was yet to come later that evening at Jingle Ball. Plus this lounge was free and open to the public.
First up, was Austin Mahone who sang "Say Something," with a bright cherry red guitar and an all black outfit. He looked dreamy. The "Mahomies" cheered and sang to the lyrics. It felt like Mahone was serenading every girl in the crowd. The next song he performed was "Heart In My Hands." "For the next song I'm gonna need you guys to sing this one!" said Mahone. The entire crowd seemed to know all the words to "Beautiful Soul," and sang with Mahone. He finalized his performance with "Say You're Just A Friend" and a warm goodbye. "Thank you, New York I love you!" he said. “He said he loved us!” said a group of 11 year old "Mahomies," after meeting the artist during his meet and greet session. “I love his dance moves! And I love his voice! It's like an angel singing,” said the girls after being hypnotized by Mahone’s singing spell.
After Mahone’s performance, Z100’s Hometown Hero presented by State Farm was announced. The winner was Matt Hunter. Next up, was the lead vocalist of Gym Class Heroes, Travie McCoy. He sang "Billionaire," followed by "Ass Back Home" and "Rough Waters." The crowd went crazy over "Stereo Hearts," and he ended his set with "Fighter."
Paramore was next on stage. They performed "The Only Exception," and their current most popular song, "Still Into You." The last performers of the day were Fifth Harmony. The girl band received each fan with a hug and kind words at their meet and greet, before the show. One of the fans, Kaitlin Clutter said, “They were so nice and I love them, they are so sweet and adorable and I’m really happy for them. They are coming a long way.” With cheers and screams, the crowd welcomed Fifth Harmony on stage where they performed "Miss Movin' On" as their first song. Next they performed a cover of "Royals" by Lorde, where the girls showed their joking and friendly side. The last song they performed was "Back Together."
Even the parents of the young fans in attendance were having an amazing time at all of the sponsors’ booths. Coca-Cola had a photo shoot set with their iconic bear and a life-sized Christmas present box. Mexico Tourism had a blow up pyramid in sand photo opp. On the second level, anyone could get a manicure, makeup, hair, and even charge your phone at Samsung’s relaxation station.
Examiner.com had the opportunity to exclusively interview Fall Out Boy and Jason Derulo at the Coca-Cola All Access Lounge. Check out highlights from our chat below:
Q: Tell us about your upcoming projects.
Fall Out Boy: We are in the middle of our video series "The Young Blood Chronicles" and we just edited a new one and we are looking forward for that in the next year. And we have big tour plans, but we haven’t figured that one out, yet.
Q: How was performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?
Fall Out Boy: It was a teenage dream come true! It was awesome and intimidating.
Q: If you were president for the day, what would be a fun law that you would pass?
Jason Derulo: I would serve McDonalds in schools, you know what I am saying? When I was a kid McDonald’s was everything. School lunch was alright, but it would’ve been way better with McDonald’s.
Q: Tell us about your upcoming projects or collaborations?
Jason Derulo: I have a new EP that’s out right now, so it’s like a preview of what the album will be. It is five songs. My next single it’s called "Talk Dirty" and it features 2 Chainz, and the album would be coming out soon after that.
