Fans and Fashionistas braved Winter Storm Nemo this Friday to catch a glimpse of Parkchoonmoo's Autumn/Winter 2013 collection at The Studio in Lincoln Center during Mercedes Benz Fashion week on Friday evening. Reality star Angela Simmons-- daughter of rap mogul Rev. Run-- and New York socialite and philanthropist Karen Koeningsberg were two of the VIPs spotted in the front row.
For Fall 2013, designer Demi Park drew inspiration from the majesty of Arctic glaciers and the mercurial power of nature. Park played with concepts of protection and human fragility by layering padded, armor-like appliques over sheer tops and jackets. Soft greys, eggshell whites, and deep, shiny blacks dominated the collection, but the designer surprised with several printed pieces towards the end of the show. The prints, featuring images of icy blue glaciers, were something of a departure for Park, who is known for her signature monochromatic palette.
Many of the pieces contained surprising hints of practicality. Models prowled the runway in white and black sneakers instead of the expected stilettos, and much of the collection featured high-performance tech fabrics and water-repellant leathers. Other pieces veered more towards the avant-garde, like Park’s ankle-length down and leather jacket, which pinned the model’s arms to her sides with an over-sized duvet wrap. The asymmetric, silk and wool felt dress was a particular stand-out of the collection– the look’s high-collared, covered front made a shocking contrast it’s bare, unzipped back.
The models sported a natural-look makeup by Zenia. The hair, created by Nick Irwin of Catwalk by Tigi was severe and center-parted; slicked back for the men with long ponytails for the women.
