For her Fall 2014 collection, Lela Rose drew inspiration from the world of chef and artist Ferran Adrià, and the meal experienced at El Bulli with the line centering on the geometry, natural beauty and the magical adventure that a meal can be.

Rose explained, “Adrià’s signature combination of textural, playful and experimental ideas sets the tone for waved hems, embroidered grids and gold dusted gazar. Stacked pearls, silk layered with feathers and cashmere knit with crystals are refined and softened by architectures and modern silhouettes being both sophisticated and whimsical.”

The collection, presented at the Salon at Lincoln Center, used a color palette of blue mint, charcoal, magenta and citrine. The models makeup by Romy Soleimani with Kevyn Aucoin had gold metallic shadow, natural face and lips with whimsical “freckles” around the temples. Hair by Ted Gibson was loosely twisted on each side back to a bun. Shoes for the show were by Jerome Rousseau for Lela Rose.

The opening look, an ivory and black boucle check embroidered t-shirt and flounce skirt, was a bit of a bland disappointment. However the next look kicked the breathtaking 43-look show into gear with a bright sunflower wool coat over an ivory and black boucle check and burlap dress.

Favorite looks included a railroad tweed and wool jersey sleeved dress with deep notch next a flattering fit and flare cut; the blue mint and black floral silk wave bodice dress which had such grace and style it could have been made for Audrey Hepburn; and the daring, sheer everywhere black organza grid embroidered dress with a sheer stripe swirl overlay.

To carry the theme of the collection guest received a Lela Rose hot pad of the ivory and black boucle check trimmed in citrine and a small collection of recipes with recommended “pairings” from the fall line. The note from Rose reminded us to celebrate with your friends, get dressed up and not to forget to invite her. Hey Lela, dessert at our place Thursday? Can you bring look #19, please?

Seen on the front row were, Deborah Roberts, Katie Cassidy, Robert, Verdi, Athena Calderone, Joanna Coles and Mika Brzezinski.
