The front nine at Highland Woods Golf Course consists of five, par four holes; two, par five holes; and two, par three holes. The first, two, par four holes are #1 and #3. Number 2 is a par five hole and #4 is a par three hole. (Highland Woods Golf Course is at 2775 N. Ela Road in Hoffman Estates, Ill.)
The fifth hole is a long, par four hole. Its average distance to the putting green from the rear, Gold teeing grounds is 442 yards. Four hundred thirty-five yards is the average distance from the Blue teeing ground. Four hundred twenty-eight yards is the average distance from the White teeing ground. The average distance from the front, Red teeing ground is 382 yards. This hole has a #4, course hole handicap.
This hole’s fairway has a radical, left dogleg; it is 45°. This left dogleg begins at approximately 221 yards from the Blue teeing ground. This fairway’s, first part points southwest. After the dogleg, the fairway points south.
To avoid hitting through the dogleg angle and into the rough, most, amateur golfers should drive from the tee with a 3-wood. Correct placement of their golf balls in the fairway’s center will still leave such golfers with 221 yards distance to reach the putting green. They will need to hit their second shots with another fairway wood, perhaps another 3-wood, or maybe a 5-wood.
The following pertains to both of this fairway’s sections. They are wide. However, since it is not level throughout, golfers may have several uphill and downhill lies. Thick groups of closely spaced trees are on the left side. In addition, on the left side, there is a medium size sand bunker where the dogleg angle begins.
Pertaining to the second, fairway section, there is a lateral water hazard on the right side; it begins approximately 125 yards from the putting green. This lateral water hazard is actually huge (It is part of the layouts for the sixth and seventh holes), and has four, undulating arms. However, only a small section is close to this fairway’s, right side boundary.
The putting green has a small size sand bunker on its front, left side. Beginning at approximately 15-25 yards from the green, and having a shape that is longer that its width; this putting green is this hole’s, penultimate challenge. The putting green’s, moderate-to-severe breaks/slopes are the final challenges.
