According to the New York Daily News on Thursday, Colombian Sofia Vergara, 42, is listed as the highest paid actress in American television for the third consecutive year. "Forbes" magazine reported that Vergara, one of the stars of the hit ABC comedy "Modern Family," has estimated earnings of $37 million. She earns $325,000 for each episode of "Modern Family."
Forbes contributes Vergara's earnings to her business savvy. We must remember that starring on "Modern Family" is not all she does. She has endorsement deals with cosmetics, clothing, furniture, Diet Pesi, and other companies. She launched her own perfume this year. Most people don't know that she is also co-founder of the multi-million-dollar talent management and marketing firm, Latin World Entertainment.
It is a big jump from first place to second place. Mariska Hargitay, 50, the Emmy-winning star of NBC's "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," came in second with $13 million. Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, 28, of CBS's "The Big Bang Theory," came in third with $11 million. The second place and third place earnings are much closer than the first and second place earnings.
Hargitay, the 50-year-old detective on the longest-running drama series currently on television, earns $450,000 per episode in addition to getting earnings through syndication profits. It is interesting that Hargitay earns more per episode than Vergara, but Vergara's total earning are much more because of her other work and endorsements.
Earning an estimated $10 million three ended up in a tie for fourth place. They are Emmy winner Julianna Margulies, 48, of the CBS legal drama "The Good Wife," Ellen Pompeo, 44, of the ABC drama "Grey's Anatomy," and 32-year-old Cobie Smulders, of the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother."
Where did Kerry Washington end up on the list? It is reported that the "Scandal" star tied with "The New Girl" Zooey Deschanel and Courteney Cox of "Friends." All three came in eighth on the list with an estimated $6 million.
Women on the top 10 list for 2014 made a combined total $140 million. Men on the top 10 list for 2014 made a combined total of $214 million. The entire list can be found on Forbes website.
