Higher utility costs for consumers next on Obama agenda?

As President Obama prepares a speech for a joint session of Congress meant to convince the public to pass his health care reform, the next item on his agenda will be Cap and Trade.  If passed, it could result in higher utility costs to consumers and industry.

With only 28% of Americans approving of the way Obama is performing his role, according to an September 7, 2009 Rasmussen Report, can he convince the public that they must accept Cap and Trade, no matter how it hurts them financially.

Apparently his theory is that if using gas and electric to power homes is more costly, Americans will use less of it. Obama has admitted that Cap and Trade would bring higher utility costs to consumers.  In addition, there would be pass-through costs as industry raises prices as their energy expenses rise.

While Americans are in favor of expanding alternative energy sources such as biofuels, solar and wind power, they don't want to pay more for it, especially while in a deep economic depression. However, Obama can expect Congress to push his drive to reduce carbon dioxide pollution regardless of  having it carried on the back of  American consumers.

"Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system,” then-Democratic presidential candidate Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle in January 2008, “electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

We all must fight this! Cap and trade will not reduce emissions. Cap and trade allows polluters to buy extra "credits" from other polluters who use less than their allotment. We pay the extra cost because when was the last time you heard of any manufacturer or supplier that DIDN'T pass on cost increases to the consumer? With the economy trying to find its legs, is this the time to mandate "skyrocketing utility costs"? What is he thinking? I know what I'm thinking . . . 2010 and half these elected officials will be gone. 2012 Obama will be gone. They keep digging a deeper hole for themselves. Write your elected officials with the same vehemence with which you've been protesting obamacare.

As opposed to the way fuel prices spiked under the previous administration?

Predicting "higher utility costs" is like predicting a horse will win the Derby.
